What is Karate?

Karate is a Japanese martial art that incorporates punching, kicking, striking, wrestling, take downs, sweeps, joint locks, sparring, and kata (forms).

When attending a training session you can expect to learn a number of skills starting with very basic techniques and then progressing to more advanced techniques and drills. Students will progress at their own rate and will not be forced to do anything that they feel they are not ready for.

A normal class consists of fitness activities, technique development, partner work, kata development and pad work. however classes vary significantly depending on the focus of the class at that time.

As students develop skills and fitness they are given the opportunity to try for their next belt level. There are three gradings per year, however if you are unable to attend a grading for any reason an alternate time and date can be arranged.

We also offer a number of specialised classes to suit everybody from beginner to the advanced competitor.
