Our Programs are developed according to age and developmental level. As a student grows and matures and their skill and knowledge improves, so to do our programs grow to meet their needs. As a beginner, students are guided through skills and activities, but as they become more capable, they are provided with more opportunities and freedom to develop their own personality within the martial arts. We do not aim to develop clones of our-selves, but strive to produce individuals, each with their own unique style and personality. We encourage each of them to use their own minds to further the development of Karate.

Below is a brief outline of some of the programs and initiatives we currently offer....

Starting Soon!
Karate Cubs - 3 to 5 years
At this age training focuses on the development and mastery of gross motor skills through a number of fun and success orientated learning activities. Martial arts training at a young age can help to equip kids with the skills and total body coordination necessary to be successful in other physical activities and sports later in life. It can also teach children the importance of lifelong activity in developing a healthy lifestyle.

Junior Tigers - 6 to 11 years
At this age students are preparing for the demands and responsibilities of adolescents, therefore training focuses on development of self discipline and self respect. Each child gradually takes more responsibility for their own learning, developing confidence in both their abilities and personalities. By achieving success on a regular basis students develop the confidence to make their own decisions and to stick by their beliefs. Students are also encouraged to be accepting of others and to keep an open mind to other ideas and points of view.

Shotokan Tigers 12 to 15 years
Students are at an age where their desires to succeed are greater, they want to take charge of their own development and may begin to specialise in one or more areas. Therefore training focuses on leadership skills while refining motor abilities, so that greater success can be achieved. There is also a large emphasis on health and fitness with opportunities for extra curricular activities (e.g. Competitions, Seminars, Courses etc.)
Also Students are encouraged to be more independnt in their learning and are encouraged to use their own initiative in class.
Adult Karate Classes - 16yrs & Above
Adults participate in karate for many varying reasons, whether it be competition, self defence, recreation, health & fitness or social interaction. Our programs therefore offer the opportunity for people to take control of there own learning so that they may move at a pace which most suits their goals and lifestyle.

Kumite (fighting) Classes

Kumite classes are run on Saturday afternoons and are available for both Junior and Senior students. The focus of the class is on developing fitness and combat skills in a safe environment.
Classes are ideal for students that want to improve their fitness and strength while having fun utilising alot of the boxing equipment at our Reservoir Dojo.

Other Initiatives

We have also developed a number of initiatives designed to encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and progress within the Martial arts. Click on the links below to find out more....

Senior Leadership Program
The leadership program is designed to develop leadership qualities that are transferable to their life outside of the dojo. This system focuses around the five key areas of, respect, dedication, attitude, responsibility and karate etiquette. Students are rewarded for demonstrating these qualities both during training and outside of the club as they work their way towards the title of Junior Leader and ultimately SENIOR LEADER. Once they reach the level of Senior Leader students will be required to participate in a Sports First Aid course before continuing onto the Junior Instructors program.

Junior Leadership Board
Designed to encourage students to demonstrate and develop an appropriate attitude towards training and help them to learn proper karate etiquette and self discipline.

Junior Instructors Program
After completing the senior leadership program students will be given the opportunity to continue learning through the Junior Instructor and Instructors programs. These programs allow students to develop the skills necessary to analyse and breakdown techniques in order to develop a better understanding of karate skills and also teaches them appropriate coaching strategies for maximising student progress. During the Instructors program students will be required to attend a Level 1 National Coaching Accreditation Course which is provided through the Australian Karate Federation of Victoria and to regularly attend coaching seminars and other activities. This is a great opportunity for students looking at developing a career within the martial arts.

Kata Board
Designed to motivate students to learn their kata and practice it outside of class.

Ranking System - Students have the opportunity to participate in a grading exam three times per year. If they are successful they will graduate to the next belt level. As young students need to experience success more frequently then adults their is a separate grading syllabus for juniors which includes a pre-grading system for beginners and junior belt levels throughout the syllabus. Click on the following links to view the Junior grading system and the Senior grading system.

Semester Feedback Sheets
Twice per year students are presented with a feedback sheet outlining both their strong points and things that they may need to devote more practice to. This gives the students a training focus and teaches them to set goals and strive to achieve them.

Home Training Program
Students are given a home training program which they should try to complete atleast once per week. By completing the program and getting their parents to sign off on their sheet students gain points towards the term 'Dedication to Karate' award. There is a new program handed out each term.

Resource C.D.
Students are given a resource C.D. which offers alot of information on karate. This C.D. is updated regularly with new information and video footage as well as student reports and feedback.

Grading certificates and awards
Students are awarded throughout the year for outstanding achievement and dedication to karate with trophies and other awards at the completion of each term and each year.
